Staff Shooter interview No.1
Amandine Bouillot
2007 European Outdoor Champion

You’ve had an incredible season this year, scoring several World Cup medals, as well as a 3rd place at the European Championships in your home country, France.
Was there a moment that stood out from all the rest in 2008?

I have had a beautiful season. The first event which felt special is the 2nd stage of the FITA World Cup in Porec, Croatia. I had already made it onto the podium in several major international competitions, but it was my first victory. I will also remember the finale of the World Cup in Lausanne, where I finished 3rd. It is a beautiful experience to be lived.

What was the reason you chose Shibuya as your sight sponsor?
How do you feel the Ultima CP sight has helped your performance in competition?
Amandine Bouillot
Last season, I decided to contact Shibuya, because I was in search of a reliable, solid, precise and easy to use sight. I began to shoot with Shibuya’s sights after the World Championship in Leipzig, Germany.
Since then I have had absolutely no problems with my sight. It is important for all shooters to have total trust in their equipment. It is one of the facts required for top level performance.

What makes up  the rest of your equipment?

I shoot a Hoyt UltraElite compound bow with XT2000 limbs and C2 cams. I have 55 Lbs draw weight and 26" draw length.
My stabilizer is a Doinker Carbon series, 30" with V bar.
I use a Beiter scope and my release is a Carter Insatiable.
My arrows are Easton X10 Protour.

How long have you been practicing archery?

I have been practicing archery since 1999. I began when I was 15 years old.

What was the reason you started archery?

I practiced Judo, but after suffering an injury, I had to look for an alternative. Every year in September, all of the school’s sporting clubs gather and take registrations for the year. On the shooting stand, I saw a compound bow and I wanted to try. What attracted me is the outstanding and mechanical aspects of this type of bow. I like to tinker! It was the reason for that I began archery.

How often do you practice?

I train 5 or 6 times in a week. I shoot between 130 and 200 arrows in every training session.

What do you think makes you successful as an archer?

Firstly, I train hard to be successful. I am very demanding with myself during practice. I also organize my professional life in such a way as to allow for a lot of practice.
Secondly, I have the motivation. I have strong objectives for the season and I want to realize them.

Finally, I am rather quiet, which allows me not to put myself under too much stress during competition.

What does your usual practice routine look like?

At the beginning of training, I shoot approximately 30 arrows on a blank bale to warm up and to focus on my form. Then I put a target face on and I always try to keep the quality of my form up, and study and relate it to my actual performance.
The purpose is to try to shoot every arrow to score 10 points. I look for the same quality of shooting as in competition.

Do you have a favorite competition to go to?

I have no favorite competition. For me every competition is unique. I like changing place and discovering new countries and sizes of competitions (the finale of World Cup for example). Since I make some archery, I am happy!

Do you have any preparation rituals before competition or “jinxes”?

I have no preparation rituals before competition. Everything is going to depend on my state of mind in the moment. Every competition is unique and I am not superstitious. I have always been told that luck cannot be provoked.

The indoor season is about to begin. How do you prepare yourself, and your equipment?

This year I have no objective in indoor because I have to prepare for an important examination. I will not make the world championship. The only one competition which I am looking forward to participating in will be the Nimes European Indoor.
The winter season is going to allow me to prepare for the outdoor season, which will begin with the first stage of the FITA World Cup in Santo Domingo. I am going to work a lot technically and mentally and I will try out Hoyt’s new cams.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

My first goal is to rise to stand at the top of the podium at the Outdoor World Championships in Korea.
My second goal is to once again be one of the only 4 female compound archers to take place in the finale of the World Cup.
